Blog post # 31 - Opening title studies
Hello, welcome to my 31st blog post where i will be studying the aspects of opening title in films of my genre. This blog post will be analyzing the title of drama films and how it plays into the final project. I began my research on https://www.artofthetitle.com/feature/top-five-chloe-okuno/, with this im began to look into how main titles play into a film. An Example of how a main title and sequence will prepare the viewers for what is later to come in the film. On The art of the title a example they give is from the movie ginger snaps. The opening sequence with the cover allowed viewers to be prepared for what level of gore they can expect coming up.
On The art of the title they had many more example of why title and opening sequence is important and what roles it plays later into the film. A quote from Scott B. Smith says "main titles that can just be aesthetics and effectively are just branding. They might as well be just a title card. In the age of streaming, a main title needs a reason to exist. You need to be playing some meaningful, valuable role". This made me realize that a main title and sequence is more then just catching the eye and advertisement it has to be strategically picked with reason to inform and foreshadow what is going to bein the film.
